Please note: A scuba diving qualification is not necessary for either of these field trip options; it is open to all delegates.

Choose between a whale-watching OR shark cage-diving trip on 14 September 2012. 

A not to be missed field outing to Gansbaai, a South African hotspot for up close and personal encounters with great white sharks, whales, dolphins, seals and penguins.

Marine Dynamics shark cage diving

Time: 07h00 or 10h00 to 17h00

Marine Dynamics operates from Gansbaai (Western Cape, South Africa), a world hotspot for the great white shark.

You will experience an incredible cage-diving adventure onboard the custom-designed Marine Dynamics boat, Slashfin (named after one of their visiting sharks). 

An onboard marine biologist will educate you as you get up close and personal with this amazing apex predator in the famous Shark Alley. Marine Dynamics is certified by Fair Trade in Tourism, lives by its motto “Discover and Protect”, and works in collaboration with the Dyer Island Conservation Trust.

Marine Dynamics conducts extensive shark research, which includes shark fin identification, and tagging and tracking the great white sharl. You will leave with great memories and a deep appreciation of this majestic animal. And along the way, you can view the rest of South Africa’s “Marine Big 5”: whales, dolphins, seals and the endangered African penguin, as well as incredible seabirds.

Gansbaai is only two hours’ drive from Cape Town along a scenic route.

Dyer Island Cruises boat-based whale watching

Time: 07h00 to 17h00

Operating around the world-famous Dyer Island (Gansbaai, Western Cape), this is going to be an incredible viewing of South Africa’s southern right whales. Every year from June to December, the southern right whales arrive to mate and calve.

Witness mating displays, breaching, tail slapping, spyhopping and more. 

You may also see Bryde’s whales, humpback whales, the elusive humpback dolphin, common dolphin, an incredible array of seabirds and we guarantee a sighting of our almost 60 000-strong Cape fur seal colony on Geyser Rock as you cruise down the famous Shark Alley.

An on-board marine biologist will teach you more about the amazing animals that visit South African shores.
