Education was the focus of the first plenary session of the 8th International Aquarium Congress (IAC) in Cape Town on 10 September 2012. Following the “Voices for the Future of our Oceans” youth video conference and a heartening welcome from Western Cape Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Education Donald Grant during the opening ceremony, 8th IAC delegates were ready to be inspired by the future custodians of the oceans.

During the plenary sessions on husbandry advances and captive breeding, a strong need for a central repository of knowledge has come to the fore. The 8th International Aquarium Congress (IAC) is the ideal place to get this kind of knowledge base going, and the IAC is responding by starting a programme of this nature today.

There was a great mix of advice and inspiration in relation to the aquarium business at the 8th International Aquarium Congress (IAC) on 11 September 2012. The Business Management session was chaired by Sea Life Director Rob Hicks with excellent input from keynote speaker, Elena Kazlas of ConsultEcon and various other speakers.

Café conversations

Two Café conversation sessions were held at the 8th IAC  – and IAC first – and were met with enthusiasm and interest by delegates. The first session was themed around "business sustainability", while the second picked delegates' brains around the topic of "collection sustainability"
